In our emergency dentist office, we understand that life can throw curve balls and when it does, it is important to have someone to care for you and your family. In our office, we are available to help treat your dental emergency after hours and on the weekend. If you have physical injuries as well, head to the ER first, otherwise call our office instead. The ER doctors are not equipped to deal with dental problems so visiting them will only get you a referral to a dentist. Rinse your mouth. It is important to gently rinse your mouth with water.
If possible use salt water since that is a natural antiseptic. Spit out the blood and see if your mouth stops bleeding or if it continues to do so. This will give you an idea of the condition of your teeth and mouth along with the severity of your injuries. Locate your tooth. If your tooth has been knocked out, try and locate it. There are times where we can save your tooth in our emergency dentist office. In order to make this a possibility, you must locate the tooth, rinse it in water without scraping anything off of it, and place it into a cup of milk.
The calcium in the milk will help to preserve the tooth, and if you get here fast enough, we may be able to save it. Use ice. Whenever your mouth is injured, it will naturally swell. We suggest using ice to help alleviate the swelling, which will also make your face, jaw, and mouth more comfortable. Place an ice pack on the injured area for fifteen minutes at a time, with a fifteen-minute break in between. Take medicine. If you are experiencing intense discomfort, use ibuprofen to help alleviate it while also reducing the swelling. Just be sure to avoid aspirin since that is a blood thinner that can only make the problem worse, especially in advance of an emergency dental procedure. Use gauze. If your mouth continues to bleed, find some gauze and place it in your mouth on the way to our emergency dentist office. This may help it to stop and at the very least, will make you more comfortable.
A typical implant consists of a titanium screw (resembling a tooth root) with a roughened or smooth surface. The majority of dental implants are made out of commercially pure titanium, which is available in 4 grades depending upon the amount of carbon and iron contained. More recently grade 5 titanium has increased in use. Grade 5 titanium, Titanium 6AL-4V, (signifying the Titanium alloy containing 6% Aluminium and 4% Vanadium alloy) is believed to offer similar osseointegration levels as commercially pure titanium. Ti-6Al-4V alloy offers better tensile strength and fracture resistance. Today most implants are still made out of commercially pure titanium (grades 1 to 4) but some implant systems (Endopore and NanoTite) are fabricated out of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Implant surfaces may be modified by plasma spraying, anodizing, etching or sandblasting to increase the surface area and the integration potential of the implant.
Surgical incisions: Traditionally, an incision is made over the crest of the site where the implant is to be placed. This is referred to as a ‘flap’. Some systems allow for ‘flapless’ surgery where a piece of mucosa is punched-out from over the implant site. Proponents of ‘flapless’ surgery believe that it decreases recovery time while its detractors believe it increases complication rates because the edge of bone cannot be visualized. Surgical procedure: At edentulous (without teeth) jaw sites, a pilot hole is bored into the recipient bone, taking care to avoid the vital structures Drilling into jawbone usually occurs in several separate steps.
The pilot hole is expanded by using progressively wider drills, depending on implant width and length. A cooling saline or water spray keeps the temperature of the bone to below 47 degrees. The implant is screwed into place at a precise torque so as not to overload the surrounding bone. There are different approaches to place dental implants after tooth extraction. Immediate post-extraction implant placement. Delayed immediate post-extraction implant placement (2 weeks to 3 months after extraction). The amount of time that practitioners allow the implant to heal before placing a restoration on it varies widely. In general, practitioners allow 2-6 months for healing but If the implant is loaded too soon, it is possible that the implant may move which results in failure. After the healing period, is the time of restoration or placing the Porcelain teeth over the Implants. This Involves a series of Appointments wherein initially the Implant head is exposed and a healing cap is placed over the head for healthy gums to form around it. Then a measurement is taken with special Impression materials which is send to Dental Lab for making the Prosthesis (Porcelain Crown/Bridge or removable Dentures). Finally the healing cap is replaced with a prosthetic Abutment on which the Prosthesis is either screwed or cemented.
Teeth whitening can be so harsh and dreadful. Going to a dentist, getting impressions of your teeth made, then paying a ton of money for the refills of gel, or using those bloody strips. Something about putting those strips on my teeth feels so icky to me. And then letting them sit on there for 20 minutes? I can hardly stand one-two minutes. Not to mention the sensitivity of the gums after bleaching. So, I decided to look into a more natural way to whiten my teeth using essential oils. I have heard of using activated charcoal, but that just doesn’t fit with my routine. I thought, “What can I fit into my daily routine to whiten my teeth naturally?
Well, believe it or not, Wild Orange essential oil is a great alternative, and you only have to use it 3 times a week. Once a day, every other day (so about three times a week), apply two drops of Wild Orange Essential Oil to your toothbrush bristles, then put your toothpaste on your toothbrush bristles. You should start noticing a change in the color of your teeth within a few days. Easy at that, my friends! There are so many other uses for Wild Orange Essential Oil. Add two drops to a GLASS water bottle full of water or a cup of water to “spike” your beverage. It makes for a great water flavoring! Wild Orange Essential Oil is also great in an essential oil diffuser. Simply add about 8 drops to your diffusers water and let that baby roll!

Over the years, dental practice has evolved, from simple pain management, to health care and now beautification. The differences between general dentists and cosmetic dentists may not be obvious at first, but learning the distinction can help you get the right kind of care. The primary goal for general dentists is to keep their patient’s teeth and mouths in great health by preventive care and promoting good oral hygiene. General dentists will care for teeth that require fillings, root canals, or even pulling. With good general dentistry, you can avoid gum disease, cavities, and other oral problems, including cancer screenings.
While cosmetic dentists are trained in all aspects of general dentistry, they often take on the additional training needed to provide cosmetic dental procedures as well. For cosmetic dentists, having a healthy mouth is the first step, but the ultimate goal is a healthy and beautiful smile. By using dental implants, porcelain veneers, crowns, and professional teeth whitening, the cosmetic dentist helps his patients achieve the aesthetic goals they seek. Whether you have concerns for your oral health, or desire a smile makeover, Norfolk cosmetic dentist, Dr. Michael Folck will help you develop a personalized treatment plan to meet your goals.
